1776 – The signing of the United States Declaration of Independence took place. (How far it has fallen)
1918 – The first general strike in Canadian history takes place in Vancouver. (war related issues)
1923 – Vice President Calvin Coolidge becomes U.S. President upon the death of President Warren G. Harding. (Harding was as corrupt as they come)
1934 – Gleichschaltung: Adolf Hitler becomes Führer of Germany following the death of President Paul von Hindenburg. (Hitler now unopposed)
1939 – Albert Einstein and Leo Szilard write a letter to Franklin D. Roosevelt, urging him to begin the Manhattan Project to develop a nuclear weapon. (They later regretted it)
1943 – Jewish prisoners stage a revolt at Treblinka, one of the deadliest of Nazi death camps where approximately 900,000 persons were murdered in less than 18 months. (noble, but doomed)
1945 – World War II: End of the Potsdam Conference. (Truman now fully prepared to use nuclear weapons)
1964 – Vietnam War: Gulf of Tonkin incident: North Vietnamese gunboats allegedly fire on the U.S. destroyer USS Maddox (very alleged, probably never happened)

1936 – Jesse Owens wins the 100 metre dash, defeating Ralph Metcalfe, at the Berlin Olympics. (In your face Adolf)
1949 – The Basketball Association of America and the National Basketball League finalize the merger, that would create the National Basketball Association (Eeew basketball)
2004 – The pedestal of the Statue of Liberty reopens after being closed since the September 11 attacks. (Closed for security reasons)

1951 – Marcel Dionne, Canadian ice hockey player (LA Kings)
